Meant as an interchange terminus located at Morgaon for city, inter-state and intra-state bus service, the Ultra Modern Transport Hub was briefed to be an enormous facility catering to the huge requirement that the favored tourist destination, Kalayojan’s design visually diminished the enormity of this scale by lifting the building on stilts, freeing the ground floor of any built structure save the columns, and choosing a membrane roof of free flowing form to further enhance this structural lightness. Several layers of zoning ensure a functional segregation of various simultaneous movements on the premises, viz. bus arrival, departure, parking, furling, servicing, inter-city intra-city and city bus service, passengers in flow waiting and out flow, ticketing, mall related movements and others. Food kiosks and shop service the first passengers waiting area. The membrane roof also affords alternation between natural and artificial light and ventilation, helping to minimize energy consumption. Green tools such as solar energy for electrification, a rain water harvesting system and others are used.
